Ebro Foods buys organic food company “Vegetalia”

Ebro Foods (www.ebrofoods.es) bought the entire capital of Vegetalia, S.L. and Corporacio Alimentaria Satoki, S.L. (jointly “Vegetalia” www.vegetalia.com ) from their founding shareholder today, through its French subsidiary Alimentation Sante. The restaurants operating under the trade name “Vegetalia” were not included in the transaction.

Ever since its foundation by Salvador Sala Druguet in 1986, Vegetalia has been engaged in the preparation and distribution of a broad range of organic food products and it is a pioneer in the manufacturing of vegetable protein. It sells around 1,500 products a year, including fresh and dry organic food, organic drinks and diet food. In 2016 it posted an annual turnover of EUR 11.5 million.

Vegetalia is established in Castellcir (Barcelona) with over 80 employees. It also works around 70 hectares of organic crops, which are used by Vegetalia to manufacture its products.

The purchase price was EUR 15 million.

Firm commitment to organic food

With this acquisition, Ebro Foods increases its market share in organic food. Moreover, this is an excellent complement to the business currently operated by the group in France after buying up Celnat.

Once again, this purchase demonstrates the Ebro Group’s interest in investing in the Spanish food industry.
